For our first exhibition at NuN, we are pleased to present Zwichen den Türen, a solo show by the German artist Florian Neufeldt.
Spaces and the process of their occupancy are two poles between which the artist develops his work. Using found architectural elements mixed with various devices taken from the repertory of engineering, he creates new environments which generate a perturbing, if not threatening apprehension. More recently he has been including sound in his installations (noise from a drill, monotonous voice, repeated words) as a self-sufficient medium for subtle, but very consistent space-connected interventions.
For his exhibition at NuN, Florian Neufeldt conceives an installation in-situ from two works shown for the first time together. Titled Im Nacken (in the neck), they refer as per the German expression to the threatening feeling of a persistent presence in someone’s back. The symmetrical display of the sharp cut metallic doors constrains the movement of the viewer, these latter being caught in the duel of the paired artworks.
Florian Neufeldt (1976) lives and works in Berlin. He studied at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf (1997 - 1999) and then Sociology, Philosophy and History at the Cologne University and at FU Berlin (1999 - 2005). Recent exhibitions of the artist include amongst others solo shows at Galerie Opdahl, Berlin and Stravanger, Norway, (2011, 2010, 2009), The Gallery Appart, Rome (2011), Parrotta Project Space, Berlin (2008), and group shows at Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden (2012), "Circus Heins" at Atelier Saché, FRAC Centre, and Open Space Cologne (2010, 2009).
